A Move

SYNOPSIS
Elahe returns to her hometown in Mashhad, Iran, to help her parents move to a new place after 40 years. Influenced by the Woman-Life-Freedom movement, she's also hoping for a bigger move beyond just a new apartment.

ABOUT THE DIRECTOR 

 

Elahe Esmaili is an award-winning documentary filmmaker with a passion for telling stories that explore the rights of children and women, as well as the inspiring journeys of women who break boundaries and overcome adversity. Elahe holds a Master's degree in Directing from the National Film and Television School in the UK, and a Bachelor's degree from Tehran University of Art in Iran.

Her debut film, The Doll (2021), earned significant recognition, including the Best International Short award at Hot Docs 2021. It was also nominated for and selected at prestigious events such as the Critics Choice Awards, the International Documentary Association (IDA), and the Student Academy Awards, among over 50 other film festivals worldwide, including Full Frame Documentary Film Festival, Atlanta Film Festival, and Athens International Film and Video Festival. Elahe’s second short, Can I Hug You? (2023), premiered at Sheffield Documentary Festival and was supported by the IDA and One World Media. It was co-produced by the German public broadcaster DW.

 

Currently, Elahe is working on her third short documentary, A Move (2024), continuing her exploration of powerful, boundary-pushing stories.
