ABOUT THE DIRECTOR

A graduate in Pure Mathematics and Languages, Sandhya Suri received a scholarship to study documentary at The National Film and Television school in England, where she directed 5 films screening at festivals including Cinema du Reel (Jury’s Honorable Mention), Munich International Documentary Film Festival, the BFI’s ‘Imagine Asia festival’ (Best Short Film).

Her feature documentary ‘I for India’ was commissioned by ZDF/ARTE and screened in World Competition at Sundance Film Festival. The film has screened at over twenty international film festivals, winning several awards internationally. The film was released theatrically in the U.K. and U.S. in 2008. After ‘I for India’ Sandhya spent several years working in international development, traveling the world and filming across disaster zones from D.R. Congo to Bangladesh. She is currently based in London where she is a visiting tutor at The National Film and Television School and University College London.

This year Sandhya was selected for the prestigious Sundance Screenwriters’ Labs and Sundance Directors’ Lab with her first fiction feature script Santosh. Here in the UK she was selected for this year’s NET.WORK@LFF professional development program.
